[Reprinted]Choosing New Android Apps

The Android Market is loaded with new apps. In fact, more programs are released every day. The Apple Store requires approval for all applications for the iPhone, but Android users can download them shortly after they have been finished by programmers.

This distinction affects both the availability of apps and the user experience for cell phone consumers. With such quick access to new applications, Android users can choose between an avalanche of new titles that come out nearly every day. To help you with choosing Android apps, this article discusses methodologies that you can use to sort through the clutter.

Free or Paid?

Some Android apps are available for free. To use others, you may be required to pay a download fee. There are also apps that require subscriptions. Before choosing an application, it is important to set a budget and decide how much you are willing to spend.

Free applications often have similar features to paid ones, so don't presume that the most expensive apps are always the best. Luckily, the Android Market interface allows you to browse between user ratings and reviews. This will help you figure out which Android apps are considered the best by other mobile phone users.

Read Third-Party Reviews of Apps

Tech blogs, magazines, and other media outlets cover new technological devices. Some even specialize in the provision of reviews of applications for popular smartphones. When making any shopping decision, it is crucial to consider the unbiased opinions of professional reviewers. They have far more time to play with Android apps, and their advice might save you some trouble.

Some new apps will have few reviews, and it is important to evaluate whether or not the existing ratings seem genuine. This may present some challenges when you are trying to determine the value of a very recent release.

Find Apps That Make Life Simpler

When choosing Android apps, think about programs that might exist that could assist you with specific tasks that you carry out each day. This thought process should lead you to a few keywords that you can use to search the Android Market.

Your phone's interface should allow you to search from all the available apps by simply keying in a relevant phrase. When you have a general idea of what you want, it is easy to find new applications in this manner.

New Android Market applications are being released on an ongoing basis. With these search tips, you can easily find some useful programs that are compatible with your smartphone.

[Reprinted]iPhone Vs Android Development - A Comparison

iPhone and Android... both of them are the most sought after smartphones of the generation. With these two smartphones, life is getting easier and smoother. However, for a developer, application development for these two smartphones is definitely a treat, since he can address a global audience with the apps. The comparison between Android and iPhone application development is as cited below:

Programming language: iPhone app development language is Objective-C, which is a programming language based on C with some extensions on object-oriented versions such as interfaces, dynamic typing, classes, inheritance, messages and many more. On the other hand, android application development is based on Java. Many developers opine that Java is a no-brainer programming tool. For this reason, if you are a developer, who loves coding, iPhone application development might excite you more than android development.

Platform comparison: With iPhone, finding functionalities is very difficult, while the case is quite opposite with android. iPhone application is quite closed, while android development is based on open source. To download the iPhone source code, you might need to resort to Google, but downloading android source code is easier and faster. In other words, android platform classes are predictable and consistent in terms of layout. For this reason, beginner development choice should be android rather than iPhone development.

Programming model comparison between iPhone and Android application development: iPhone programming model is based on MVC design pattern. With this tool, building a User Interface is easier, since all the codes are orderly placed in the source code. On the other hand, the later supports multiple processes. Thus, a little complicated. However, both these platforms provide declaration of user preferences in XML. Android's XML pattern allows integrate custom user interface components. While with iPhone, it is an extensive job.

Resources comparison between the two platforms: There are numerous resources for iPhone developers. There are videos, so that the developers can watch them carefully and employ them. On the other hand, android offers SDK with a proper guidance of API preferences. Many developers would say that android resources are more organized and suitable for all developers. Moreover, there is no clear and accurate NDA policy of Apple in terms of open source.

Tooling comparison: In this section, both are almost the same. There are not many differences between their tooling systems in both these platforms. Tooling interface includes debugger, profiler, IDE, User Interface, and builder.

From the aforementioned discussion, it is clear that both iPhone and Android application development have some advantages as well as disadvantages. It depends on the developers and his wants and needs which platform he or she will choose. The pros and cons are there to help you.

[Reprinted]Saving Battery Life on Your Android Device

Your Android is a powerful device, but powerful output means powerful input. In other words, the more you use your device the quicker you're going to drain the battery, and batteries drain quickly on Android devices. This means that you have to be proactive in managing your battery use, or else you'll find yourself without a phone until you find a charger. Here are a few tips to keep your battery life as low as possible.

Turn off Wi-Fi

Most Android devices include a Wi-Fi radio, so you can take advantage of fast internet speeds when you're in range of a Wi-Fi network. Unfortunately, Wi-Fi does have its downsides. It's not a secure connection, so you can't access some services unless you turn it off. But most immediately it drains your battery quickly, even if the phone is idle. In order to avoid this, turn Wi-Fi on only when you need the extra speed. Also, avoid applications that automatically detect Wi-Fi signal. Those can drain your battery and you won't even be aware.

Turn down the screen brightness

It takes a lot of power to keep a screen lit up, and the brighter it gets the more battery it drains. One of the best ways to reduce battery use is to turn down the screen brightness unless you need it. When you're watching a video you might want the full brightness, but if you're just messaging using other non-graphical applications you can save battery by turning brightness to the lowest setting.

Limit applications that automatically check for updates

Android provides a perfect environment for social networking. Services like Facebook and Twitter are easy and fun to use through the Android applications. The drawback is that if you want to get regular updates from your friends you'll have to set the application to automatically update. The more frequently your device accesses the network, the more battery it will drain. It is important, then, to go to the Options screen of each application and make sure it's not checking for updates too frequently. Even once an hour will put a strain on the battery throughout a full day. Setting the applications to only update manually is best for battery life.

Only access the network when you need it

Even if you have limited applications that automatically check the internet, your Android is still active and checking most of the time. This is part of the reason why you might see significant battery drain even though the phone was idle in your pocket for hours. An application in the market called JuiceDefender helps out in this regard. It notices when you're not actively checking the network and it automatically turns off the connection. Once you're active again it turns back on. This application is available free in the Android Market.

Word of warning on task killers

There are a number of applications in the Android Market that claim to save battery life by closing unused applications. This might sound useful, but because of the way Android is programmed these applications are not much help. Idle applications that don't check the internet for updates typically don't put much strain on the battery, so the task killers mean that one more application is open and active. That will put more strain on the battery than the idle, unused applications.

Apps

Before choosing one of the top Android phones, you should consider what you want the phone to be able to do for you. Here are some of the top Android phones available right now.

Among the top Android phones is the Acer BeTouch E110. This is only one of the Acer BeTouch phones out on the market. The E110 is a smart phone running with the Android 1.5 software set. It is not the latest edition from Acer's technology, but the BeTouch E110 is capable of almost everything the other smart phones are. Acer has their own interface that assists users in operating their phones. This phone has a little touch screen that is powered by a 416 MHz processor. The touch screen is less than three inches in size! The touch screen is not even three inches large! The Motorola Quench is one of the top Android phones. The Quench, a later model of Motorola has been enhanced with the Android operating system. This phone is one of eight Motorola models that uses the Android system. The phone has a screen that is only slightly larger than three inches, however the screen has high definition (320 x 480). This phone uses Motoblur technology, which will allow social networking users a better experience. It uses the Android 1.5 operating system and offers Wi-Fi capability, GPS, a camera that is five megapixels and several apps the user will absolutely adore. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini is one of the most highly respected Android phones on the market. This phone is built on a slightly different model with no name change. The mini is basically the more compact version of the phone that it is modeled after. This phone works with Google's Android 1.6 operating system and is paired with the UX interface by Ericsson.

The touch screen is only two and a half inches large and the phone doesn't even weigh 100 grams. Even though it is small, it packs quite a punch. The phones comes with a camera that is five megapixels, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack that makes it possible to listen to music already on your phone. The HTC Legend is very popular. Its rating on the website Know Your Mobile dot com was number one. The HTC Legend is not the first Android phone but is rather high in demand. This might have to do with the conjunction between the HTC user interface and the Android 2.1 operating system. The screen is a touch screen and is a hair larger than three inches in size. One of its most popular features is the control it offers. It is likened to a track pad or joystick style of control. Also, it has Wi-Fi capability and GPS.

On the market today, the LG InTouch Max GW620 is among the top rated Android phones. Many consumers who purchase this phone tell everyone they know. They insist that the phone is almost perfect. It features a great five megapixel digital camera and purchasers rave about how simple the interface is to use. You can talk for eight hours before you need to start thinking about the battery. This is the phone for someone who enjoys making phone calls and is appreciative of being able to access things are only available on smart phones. Our only complaint is the cost. It is fairly expensive. One Motorola phone that functions with the Android operating system is the Motorola Cliq. This phone is for sale thought T-Mobile. It has a keyboard that slides out. One of the things that makes this phone so popular is that it allows the user to keep long logs of e-mails, text messages and social networking updates. You can utilize this phone for keeping your Twitter and Facebook pages up-to-date. You are able to remotely access the data on the phone.

An Android phone that is very popular is the T-Mobile Pulse Mini. This phone is designed for the money conscious consumer who wants all the bells and whistles of an Android phone but does not want to pay an astronomical price. The size of the touch screen on this phone is less than three inches. It comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera that has an LED Flash that helps the photographer snap even better photos. The phone runs Android 2.1 software. The difference between this is and the regular Pulse phone is it had a jack for a headphone.

Another popular phone is the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro. It is one of the cell phones on the Xperia X10 line. This phone adds on to the X10 Mini phone by adding a keyboard, which slides out from the screen.

This phone uses the Android 1.6 operating system and has a display that is less than three inches in size. Even so the phone is still easy to use and does everything that its larger counterparts can do.

One highly favored Android phone is the HTC Desire. The Nexus One handset, produced by Google, is available with this Android phone. In fact, the HTC Desire is pretty much an enhancement of its original model. It has a display screen that is nearly four inches big and uses an Amoled WVGA display. It utilizes a snapdragon processor that functions on the Android 2.1 operating system. Also, this phone manipulates the use of Adobe Flash (v. 10.1). The screen is a touch screen and utilizes joystick and track pad technology to aid the user in operating the system.Being one of the top Android phones available, the HTC Hero has gotten a lot of hype. Using the user interface is simple. It has a smooth exterior and is able to do just about everything the other smart phones can do With an ability to access the Internet, make phone calls, and snap photos, this phone is the bomb. A major problem with this phone is the size, as it is quite difficult to put the phone in your pocket without a major bulge showing in your pants pocket. Also, it does not run the latest version of the android Operation system. Still, it is a good phone and well worth the asking price.

T-Mobiles G2 Touch is the next phone after the G1, which was the first Android phone with Google. This model is better than the former model, which featured a slide out keyboard and was rather cumbersome to carry. There is no longer a keyboard, as the favored touch screen is now an opponent to the iPhone. The camera possesses five megapixel capabilities and you can chat for eight hours before it comes time to recharge a dead battery. It is a good idea to take note of the model being based just as much on the HTC Hero as it is on the G1, so if T-Mobile is not your cell phone provider of choice, you can find an equivalent cell phone with a different service provider.

A popular choice among cell phones that runs the Android software is the Acer BeTouch E400. This phone utilizes the 2.1 Android software platforms. If you want to get technical, it is essentially a smart phone. Users benefit from a touch screen that is more than three inches (3.2 to be precise). The width is no less than twelve millimeters. In addition to GPS, a 600MHz processor and Wi-Fi capabilities, the Acer Company has also installed their own user interface to parlay the Android system. This phone is still fairly new so not many users have contributed their reviews. With countless cell phones to choose from, the Acer Liquid e cell phone is often times overlooked. Little is known about Acer phones, compared to the computers and monitors they offer. The Android 2.1 operating system powers this phone.

It has a Snapdragon processor. The screen is three and a half inches big and uses touch screen technology. This phone is multi-faceted with Wi-Fi capability, GPS, a 5-megapixel camera, standard 3.5mm headphone jack for listening to music, as well as plugging in an earpiece and microphone to give you the freedom of making hand free cell phone calls. An Android phone receiving rave reviews is the Samsung Beam i8520. The phone uses Android technology for its operating system and it features a pico projector. This means that the phone user can use his phone to project pretty much anything in his phone onto a wall. It makes bringing a portable projector a simple convenience. Furthermore, it has smart phone technology inside - the previously mentioned Android operating system and the Touch Wiz skin, which was designed by Samsung.

This phone comes with an 8-megapixel camera, which makes it even better than other handheld digital cameras! An Android phone designed specifically for the budget conscious consumer is the Samsung Galaxy portal. The camera is a minimal three megapixel digital camera, but other than that it is a great phone - especially for the price. The capabilities of this phone include video, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The phone has about seven hours worth of talk time. It has a rather bulky build, but if you want a smart phone at an excellent price, this one is for you. When upgrading time rolls around, some cell phone companies offer the phone for free to their customers. Google came up with the Android system and it is making it possible for cell phone manufactures to compete the iPhone from Apple. Noticeably, the Android is a big time competitor with Apple and has now allowed other cell phone companies an opportunity to provide comparable smart phones to people who want to upgrade from their current phone to something more wise and cultivated. In actuality, cell phones are no longer used solely for making calls. Now they allow you to snap photos, play your tunes and connect to the Internet. If you desire an upgrade for you're cell phone but are uncertain if the iPhone is suited for you, the Android powered phone is a viable alternative.

When it comes time to make a decision about one of the top Android phones, it is smart to consider what you'll be using your cell phone for. If your main goal is being able to make phone calls, you probably don't need a phone with so many bells and whistles. If, however, your goal is to utilize your phone for mobile entertainment and contacts, you'll need smart phone technology to stay in the know with your family, friends and hobbies. Think about your choice!

Cell phones have certainly evolved from the days when they were built like giant breaks and could barely fit in briefcases.

Now they are able to help you check your e-mail, do video conferencing and even play complicated games all while you are away from home (or are too lazy to move off of your couch). If you have made the decision to go with a smart phone, the top rated Android phones are all worth taking a look at.

Making a decision about which cell phone to purchase can be a trying effort. There are tons of options out there! When cell phones first became mainstream, most people took advantage of the free upgrade offers from their cell phone providers. Though, that was back when cell phones were only meant for making phone calls. Nowadays cell phones are tiny computers that allow users to access the Internet, make phone calls, snaps photos, take videos and tons of other stuff. The top Android phones are some of the best phones on the market.Finding the right cell phone can take many long hours of researching. You need to ask yourself what you want your phone to be capable of. When figuring out which top android phone is worth your money, it is beneficial for you do already know what you want from your phone.

[Reprinted]PlayBook and Android Applications

PlayBook is going to be launched by Research in Motion the manufacturers of BlackBerry, while Android is designed by a group lead by Google. Google has taken special interest in the development and marketing of Android just because it wants to extend its supremacy as a search engine in the world of smart phones too.

The more the number of applications, more is the popularity of that smart phone device. There is a vast difference between the number of BlackBerry applications and Android application. Android Apps number is over 1,30,000 while that of BlackBerry stands at nearly 20,000. The Android has a big community following and support. The number of Android apps is quite high just because it is an open source platform. The cost of developing an Android application is quite reasonable and the rate of return is quite assured. This difference can have a very big impact on the buying behavior of any prospective smart phone user.

One of the business management strategies is if you cannot go against, go with. This is what the RIM is going to most probably try. RIM knows that the best way to survive in the smart phone market is through designing such an operating system and platform that runs the Android apps too. If RIM is successful in making the Android applications run on the PlayBook, the PlayBook will not only have the features of BlackBerry but also compatible to run the Android applications. In this situation the user of Play Book will be facilitated with around 1,50,000 applications. This could give the PlayBook the much awaited boost and stay ahead of the other smart phone manufacturers.

If RIM is able to make the Android applications run on the PlayBook, it can leave the iPhone far back in terms of popularity and number of applications available. The market scenario could change drastically. Earlier there were three major competitors in the field of smart phones; namely RMI (manufacturers of Blackberry), Apple Inc. (manufacturers of iPhone, iPod and iPad) and Android. After the introduction of PlayBook that is able to run the Android applications, the iPhone is sure to phase the biggest challenge of surviving in the market.

This is just hypothetical situation. If Apple Inc. also decides to allow the running of Android applications on its iPhone device, the Google is going to emerge as the biggest winner in the smart phone market.

The smart phones developers will now have to keep a close watch on not only the technical development but also the business strategies being adopted by the different manufacturers. It is going to struggle for existence and survival of the fittest but finally it is going to be the smart phone user who is going to be facilitated the most.

[Reprinted]Android Spy App - Easily Bust A Cheating Spouse With An Android Spy App

Most of us, these days, use a cellphone, it has made our lives easier and increased communication, but it can also provide opportunity for a cheating spouse. If your spouse has an Android cell, and you think they might be cheating, then you need to get your hands on an Android spy app.

You might suspect your partner is not being faithful to you and you need evidence to back up your suspicions or allay your fears, the primary source of evidence is going to be communication between your spouse and their new lover. So how do you go about getting the evidence you need to help you decide the next move? The ultimate BEST way to catch a cheater, is to install an Android spy app.

WHAT IS IT?

Android is one of the most popular cellphone OS. Designed by Google as their response to the Apple iPhone, there are thousands of apps available that can do almost anything you can think of on your cellphone. Android spy apps are available for Android that allow the user to know the location of the phone, view call logs, read SMS messages, read emails, and even internet activity on the phone. Now what more evidence would you need to know if your partner is cheating on you or not?

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Android spy application is downloaded onto the Android cellphone using the phones own web browser. Once installed it provides data to a remote server that can be accessed by the user through any internet connected device. This means that no matter where you are in the world you can view the recorded cellphone logs to find out where it is, what numbers have been dialed, what numbers have been texted etc. The web based user interface is simple to use and provides time and date stamps for all activity. The spy app runs in complete "stealth" mode, this means the phone's user is unaware the data is being sent from the cellphone.

EXAMPLES HOW THIS WILL CATCH A CHEATING SPOUSE

If you suspect you are at the wrong end of cheating relationship you can use the app to track SMS activity. Tell tale signs would be text messages to the same number, late at night or early in the morning or both, if the same number is appearing as a call at unsocial hours then you really have something to be concerned about. Of course there could be a perfectly innocent explanation for activity like this and its worth pausing before jumping to conclusions. If the number that is appearing is that of a family member or close friend it might just be that your spouse is planning a surprise for you and has enlisted their help, so check the number carefully, particularly if it seems familiar to you.

If you think the evidence supplied by the Android spy app is enough to confront your spouse then you will have a more secure footing to begin accusations, and because the application has not involved anyone else your private life remains just that, private.

[Reprinted]How Big is the Google Android Market?

The smartphone industry is taking the world by storm. What launched as an online shop for iPhone users to download applications for their iPhones has today created a huge marketplace - an entire ecosystem where developers create applications for the iPhone users and who in turn pay money, thus creating revenues for both Apple and the mobile app developers.

The opportunity in this arena has brought the giants of Internet into the mobile space. The biggest among them has been Google's Android. Android is an open source alternative to the iPhone and thanks to the lower cost is expected to win over many more users than Apple. WIth higher volumes, Google can expect to make much more out of sale of free as well as paid apps to these users of Android handsets.

Unlike Apple which brought its iPhone more than two years back, it is still early times for Android and it has not seen actual traction. Today Android constitutes way lesser market share than Apple. However Android could soon be among the most popular mobile OS platforms in the world.

According to a study by Gartner, Android could well be more popular than iPhone in a matter of three or four years. As per this study, Android could well garner over 14% market share, slightly higher than iPhone's market share of 13.5%. By 2012, Android could well be the second most popular mobile OS in the world. This could mean there could be another ecosystem created with the Android market nurturing many more developers who could sell their apps for the Android users.

According to Anand Srinivasan, founder of Knewthis.com, the growth in the Android market is not only good for the developers for the entire mobile industry as well as this could lead to a new era of competition driven enhancement in technology and business.

The Android Market used to badly lag behind the iPhone App Store but no so much any more. Android is rapidly gaining ground and many believe it will over take its rival before long. Google are reporting record numbers of Android activations and it's only growing. Needless to say, the demand for apps is quickly following on.

Not only for the more geeky among us Android is becoming known for its flexibility and offers a world of variety from devices to carriers. It is tightly interweaved with many Google products meaning you really can take your virtual space with you, almost wherever you go.

A major difference between Android and the iPhone OS is that the former is open source meaning that any functionality and appearances can be changed by Apps. The iPhone OS does not allow developers to modify any part of the OS which makes it quite limited in comparison. If you're big into customization then Android is for you.

As you can probably tell by now I'm a big Android fan and I wouldn't go back to my iPhone if you paid me! In my opinion Android is the future, in large part because it is completely open source. This in itself makes it much more future proof and appealing to a wide range of people.

One of the best features of Android is it's total integration with Gmail and Google Calendar. It is built in to the Android OS and this in itself is reason enough to choose Android over the iPhone. If you don't mind Google taking over the world then embrace the Android!

To finish up with this little look at Android I just wanted to quickly mention all the health related apps on Android. For one reason and another I need to monitor my heart rate and would you believe it there is even an Android app for that too! Astounding stuff.

[Reprinted]Android Smartphones - The Next Generation Big Thing

If you do not know what a smartphone is, then please do read on. Now a smartphone may be loosely defined as any phone, which offers many more advanced features and connectivity options than most of the phones of its era. These phones are sometimes compared to personal handheld computing devices. Software developers are also provided with an ideal platform to work on since these phones function around an operating system. They pack powerful processors and huge memories. The category comprised of smartphones has witnessed the highest growth in sales in recent memory.

Now that you know what smartphones are, you must have come to realize that they run an operating system much like your personal computer.

Android is the mobile operating system released by Google after the company acquired Android, Inc. It has now been purchased by the Open Handset Alliance. The word Android literally translates to something which has a biological foundation and closely mimics a human being. The basis for Android is formed by the ARM architecture. ARM stands for Advanced RISC Machine or Acorn RISC Machine with both being used interchangeably. There are other ARM architecture based mobile phone operating systems with which Android competes. Some of these operating systems are Microsoft's Windows Mobile and Windows Phone, Apples proprietary iOS and the oldest mobile operating system, the Symbian platform. Any phone that uses an Android operating system is an Android smartphone. These are manufactured by a myriad of well known mobile phone manufacturing companies. Also many cellular service providers seamlessly integrate these devices in their networks.

From a technological point of view, Android consists of-

1. An operating system

2. Middleware

3. Key application

Android Smartphone's uses a version of the Linux kernel that has been modified to serve the mobile environment. Hence it is open source. The Android operating system was first released on 21 October 2008. Since then, various updates have been seen. These updates have mostly taken care of security issue or have added new features. The fourth and latest version of Android is version 2.2. It is also known as Froyo. It has been based on Linux Kernel 2.6.32. The next version, nicknamed Gingerbread is slated for release in the last quarter of 2010. Android smartphones usually have the following features-

? A large variety of handset layouts.

? SQLite is used for the structured storage of data.

? Connectivity options such as Bluetooth, WI-Fi, GSM, EDGE, 3G, etc are available.

? Support for multi-touch has been incorporated in the OS.

? Additional hardware devices like cameras, GPS, touch-screens, etc are supported.

? A fully functional web-browser is provided.

? Various applications such as calendar, maps, email client, etc are provided in the box. However you could download and install many other applications and install them. These apps may be free or paid.

? Android provides a healthy developer environment. It contains various tools for debugging as well as a device emulator.

? Prices of android smartphones are usually less than smartphones having similar hardware specs but a different operating system.

Android smartphones, in their short lifespan have already made a huge impact. These phones are only expected to pack better features and be cost effective.

[Reprinted]Is Android a Threat to iPhone?

With Google's recent Android software update and Samsung and Motorola near releasing new Android handsets, should Apple be concerned?

No company can be complacent and expect their software to rule the market without any competition, there is always going to be some software company trying to take the leadership position.

Similarly Android is a threat to not only iPhone but for other mobile software's also, as it being an open source developer driver software, there are more and more features and functions being developed for it with each passing day. In fact just going through the list of applications made for android is enough to make people realize that Android has the potential to overthrow the leader in few years if not earlier.

That being said, the other companies are definitely not keeping quiet and are working towards making their product more desirable by reducing the cost for getting it (AT&T is reducing the cost of iPhone for its users) and increasing the feature list of their software

So it all depends on what Apple does to ensure that iPhone remains the top choice for users else it is just a matter of time before some other software becomes the top choice.

As far as I understand, Android has been developer focused. On the other hand iPhone has been user focused. This is evident from the fan following for the two platforms. Android has more developer fans than its users. iPhone has a huge 'user' following which is why developers are also following it.

As of today, when it comes to number of handsets in use based on a given platform, iPhone leads the way.

Android will be a threat only if it gets on to the bulk of the handsets in use. This is possible only when multiple manufacturers decide to roll out only Android handsets. We haven't seen any one announce such plans. Till that happens, there is little reason for Apple to worry. For Android, what manufacturers have committed is that they will support Android which in my opinion is little better than lip service.

Primarily, I see Android becoming a serious threat to Microsoft Windows Mobile. In particular, HTC has been using Windows Mobile in a variety of their products. Likewise, HTC has architected their own software, primarily their Touch Flo 3D, to sit on top of the Windows OS. Which seemingly devalues the whole user experience. The Touch Flo 3D software and Windows Mobile OS do not provide a cohesive user experience. I should mention that the Touch Flo 3D look-and-feel is particularly wonderful and offers a comparative experience when compared to Apple.

More recently, HTC has begun utilizing the Android OS. Perhaps to deliver that holistic user experience that's currently missing on their existing product range. I would predict that HTC will be making this move even more to the Android platform, as the MS equivalent is a pale imitation.

As for Motorola and Samsung, well they are six of one and half a dozen of the other. It's Nokia who is currently hell-bent on mobile world domination with their flavour of SymbianOS - another well-established operating system that fairs much better when comparing mobile operating systems.

Personally, I feel Apple will continue to dominate, as it's a company that will never choose to become complacent, as we have witnessed over the last 20 years.

There's an adage that competition instills creativity and makes each competitor better. Competition is what drives us forward.

However, what people forget is that everyone has different reasons for why they purchase a mobile device. With all the talk about the iPhone, it's easy to forget that the #1 mobile phone manufacturer on the planet -- Nokia -- still controls more than 40% of the market worldwide. Neither Apple nor Samsung come remotely close, and Motorola is still struggling.

Apple has pursued a niche marketing strategy of doing their own thing, tightly controlling it, and doing it well. Google will have its own strategy. Nokia will no doubt have a response to this as well. I suggest that all the discussion is the wind in the sails that keeps each of this ships moving along a technology path. I stop short of suggesting that any one thing is a threat, because within any threat or adversity comes "opportunity".

[Reprinted]Android Watches - Now You Can Make a Lasting Impression With Your Timepiece

Today, most people track time by glancing at the clocks in the bottom right corner of their desktops and laptops. Out and about? Cell phones and iPods not only give the time, but provide alarms to keep us on time. Even flat screen TVs have become timekeepers as cable providers prompt the time whenever the remote is in use. "So are watches obsolete?" one may ask. The answer: absolutely not.

Each year billions of dollars are spent on new and vintage watches. The reason - watches lend unmistakable style. Whether you go casual or dressy, today's watches make statements about one's status and taste - "I'm refined," "I'm fashionable," "I'm cool." If you want to make and be the ultimate statement, there is no better watch to wear than an Android watch.

The self-winding Android watches are created from the best materials. Their myriad of color, style, and function choices satisfy even the most discerning buyer. Their dials come in flashy vibrant colors to allow coordinated styling. Most important, though, they offer high end watches, some encrusted with diamonds, most Android watches range in price from $70.00 to $300.00. With their two collections - the Premier line and the Prime line - distinctively designed, modern and futuristic, Android watches stand out. They are never mistaken for any brand but Android. Android watches make a lasting impression. Consider some of the following Android watches when making your next timepiece purchase.

Dual Time

For those operating in two time zones, Android offers dual face watches - the Alien, Exotic Swiss, Radar, Sonic Rader, Spy 2, Super Fusion, and Traveler. Each watch has two identical faces side-by-side. Flip the watch over, you view all the watch's movements through little exhibition windows. Wrist bands come in stainless steel bracelets with a fold over double security clasp, or leather with a clasp.

For those who prefer a watch of many colors; consider buying a Radar watch. Their clock faces come in different colors which are then superimposed on contrasting backgrounds. Want a sleeker look, the Traveler arranges the normally side-by-side faces one above the other. For sci-fi aficionados, Android offers the Alien. With two identical watch faces that closely resemble robot eyes, the Alien watch became the height of fashion culture when worn by actor Christian Bale in the Sci-Fi movie, "Equilibrium."

Easy Reading

If you enjoy water activities, the Android Divemaster waters, the Android Octopus watches are perfect for you. They feature luminescent, oversized hour and minute hands for easy reading. Their matching wrist bands and dials come in bright red, bouncy yellow, azure blue, midnight black, and princess pink. For those wanting luxury with sport, consider the Octopus Lady Diamond Swiss. It showcases.13 carats of diamond along the dial from 12 to 3.

Exhibition Windows

The 11 watches that carry the Android Skeleton name give a front view peep of how the watch works. Through a sapphire coated mineral crystal cover, see the watch's inner workings - gears, sprockets, and springs. One of the more unique Skeleton watches is the Mystique. Finely contoured, it boasts a floating movement design and beveled crystal that matches the bevel design of the watch.

Stop and Go

Android's Chronographic watches offer timekeeping and stopwatch functions, as well as provide a date window. The fashionable Interceptor Swiss, Ladies Galactopus, and Vertex styles feature leather bands. Want more high end? Around the Tungsten center links of the Exotic Diamond Swiss Chronographic shines almost a carat of diamonds and sapphire crystal.

Sleekly Thin

For that cosmopolitan look, Android offers a variety of thin band watches. The Arena's small cute face is highlighted by a bold 9 and 3 in the hour time. Ensconced in flat hardened crystal, the Paris' has a bright lilac face. The Jewel comes with dials in pale and bold hues and a choice of a thin stainless mesh or leather band, while the Sarah sports an oval face with diamond shaped end points and a genuine leather band.

Absolutely Unique

Want to really stand out, choose an Android watch style that is completely unique. Choose among the Horizon Skeleton (the hours are laid out horizontally), the Tattooed Banker (21 ruby jewels create space illusion with its Ninja blade hands), and the Intrepid (tracks three time zones and boasts an alarm). The Open Heart watch has several cutaways, including one heart shaped, and a crystal back that reveals the watch in action), Rounding out the selection are the Inter-Cross (comes with three interchangeable wrist bands - leather, leather clip, and metal), and the Hydraumatic 6th G Skeleton (the hydraulic spring style bracelet adjusts to any wrist).

A quality watch provides functionality and status. With the many shapes, hues, and prices offered, Android watches are at the top of the line in providing their owners not only with an affordable timepiece, but a lasting fashion statement.

[Reprinted]Android Tablets Vs Apple iPad: The War

The manufacturing of the iPad and iPhone by the Apple Company has begun a new competitive environment for other companies that manufacture such devices. Apple has got so much fame due to its iPhone and iPad and that is why the other companies are trying to achieve such fame by introducing their devices in the market. Google is one of the top-notch companies that are trying to manufacture a device which can compete with Apple's iPad. It is going to be a challenging atmosphere for other companies as well. There has to be a computing device that can work better or equal to the Apple's one but the main thing is to manufacture a device that differs to Apple's iPad in terms of look, functionality and other features. If such a device is manufactured by any company and it can catch up the attention of most of the people then this would be a remarkable achievement. Google is trying to achieve the same objective in current scenario.

It is a real fact that Apple's iPad is not going to stand on top as compared to other devices but it will not stand for too long as most of the companies are coming up with their manufactured devices. However this year is going to be an amazing year so far for Apple because of its launching of iPad and iPhone. Google is working on its upcoming Android tablet that would outrun Apple's iPad. If you just go into the detail of this battle between Apple and Google then you would come to know that the comparison of Google Android with Apple's iPad or iPad is not justifying because these are not phones. If you just compare Android with Apple iPhone then this would also be not justifying. The reason is that the competition between Apple and Google is not over phones, it is the battle of software platform. Now a question would arise in your mind that who would win this software platform war? The answer is very much clear as the one that will come up with such device which will contain most powerful ecosystem of developers, users and mobile devices will surely win this battle.

Google android is also enjoying an impressive year so far along with Apple because the Android is intensively used by the customers. Google reported that its Android App store had got around 75,000 offerings and later on the demand rapidly rose up. The sale of Android phones is twenty percent more than that of Apple's iPhone 4 sales. The Android was not so much popular a year ago and it seemed that Android would not make it up to the level of Apple iPhone but now it is competing well. If we just sum up the overall value and reaction of people towards Android and iPhone then it would clearly justify that Android is going to be more popular than iPhone. If Google comes up with its custom-Android tablet then this would benefit Google itself because the rage for getting Android is rising as compared to iPhone.

Smartphones have forever changed the world. Just a few short years ago, most consumers would have had to carry around hundreds of devices in order to accomplish functions that a single mobile phone can handle today. [Reprinted]Ten of the Best Free Android Arcade Games

All the best free Android Arcade & Action games show off all the improved technology and basically what's possible now and in the future with mobile phone games. Even with a small screen, these games are a lot of fun and it's mainly because the graphics are so good. Even with adequate graphics, if the playability wasn't good, no one would bother downloading these games. Thankfully for all of us, it's there as well and these games are beginning to compete with standalone portable game sets. This is not to say they're at that level yet; but with time and constant improvements on both the Android OS side and the developers getting even better, it will become a more widely discussed topic.

However you look at it, it's amazing what's happened to the mobile phone games market in the last few years. And all of us consumers are the ones who get to benefit. Whether you're a hardcore gamer or not, you need to check out a couple of the very best free Android arcade games. If nothing else, download a few to simply see what they're like and you'll probably have a greater appreciation for your Android phone!

Robo Defense FREE

This is one of the best free Android arcade games that's been around quite a long time. It's constantly improving and there's a reason it's been towards the top of the list for seemingly ever. It's a tower defense game that has all sorts of maps, stats and 11 difficulty levels. There are quite a few upgrades available with this game.

Fruit Ninja Kaka

This is a fun little ninja training game. The goal is to train your ninja to cut fruit and be a "fruit killer". There's a paid version on its way and the overall quality seems to be getting better all the time.

Dante: THE INFERNO game

This is one of my favorites. When you're playing it, you're really into the game and it's like you're actually there. Quite a few levels (over 120!) and there's multiple endings. It's quite a long journey and if you're into the Zelda-like games, you'll be happy with this one.

PapiJump

Probably the plainest, simplest game on this list; it's also the most addictive and just tough to get enough of. This is a jumping game where you move from platform to platform with a smiley face. It might sound stupid to you, but if you download it and start playing, you'll be at it for a while. It's like Doritos; try eating just one.

GameBoid (GBA Emulator)

This is the "famous GameBoy Advance emulator" and new games are being supported all the time. It'll take a bit of time to get it all working no doubt, but when you do, it's pretty awesome. There's a full version that is worth buying if you're looking to use this often.

Flying High

This is a great flying game for your Android phone. You can play the game with two different goals in mind: to go for and complete the stunt course or fly in survival mode and see how long you can go. This is a solid game; could be better and surely will improve over time.

Best Multiplayer Android Games

World War

All the World War Android games are amazing. There are millions of people that play them and rightfully so. You can battle other players live while you're fighting the war. It's intense and if you're into good graphics and solid fighting, this game is for you.

iMobsters

This is one of the free Android arcade games that has quite a few diehard fans. You start your journey up through the mob as a petty thief with the goal of becoming Mafia Don! You accomplish this by bringing others into your mob and doing all sorts of mob activities. The graphics are good and it's got a ton of players- now over 1.5 million people!

Vampires Live

This is an extremely popular multiplayer vampire game with over a million players. You start off as a "lowly vampire and become the most powerful vampire lord" with lots of time. This is another game that could become quite addictive. It's fun and I guess a lot of other people think so as well.

Ninjas Live

Just like the previous 3 games on this list, it's another massive multiplayer online game. You do battle with other ninjas live to advance yourself. It's fun just like the others on this list. If you're into MMORPGs, you'll definitely like this game.

I own one of the Best Android Games sites where you can find information on every Android game and app available for download.

[Reprinted]Android Tablets: 7 Reasons Why You Need An Android Tablet

Android tablets are a new and exciting way to catch your favourite music, videos and emails, but without irritating wires. Android OS is a really big reason for their rise in popularity. It is an operating system (like Windows) designed by Google, but focusing on ease-of-use, watching and listening to media and surfing the internet.

Unlike a traditional laptop PC, a tablet PC has some advantages. Here are 7 reasons why you need a tablet in your life:

Portable - Tablets are very portable thanks to their small size and light weight. They are typically no bigger in area than a piece of A4 paper and weigh roughly half a kilo because they're not weighed down by a large battery, fans and keyboard. This means that you won't even notice when they're in your backpack or handbag!
Cheap - A new laptop PC could cost even more than 1000 dollars depending on specification! You won't have this problem with Android tablets though, they are much cheaper since they aren't equipped with software and hardware that you don't need, such as DVD drive and keyboard.
Customisable - It's easy to customize your tablet PC with apps and new backgrounds. Android OS allows you to put links to your favourite or most-used apps on your homepage and change its background. This means that your tablet is unique to you and only you! You can also upgrade to newer versions of Android when they arrive.
Ideal For Videos - You can watch videos on many different devices, but MP4 players and smartphones all have quite small screens which could cause eye-strain. Tablets are great because they usually have a nice, large screen of between 7 to 10 inches.
Free Internet - If you are in a WiFi hotspot (anywhere with a wireless internet connection) then your tablet will be great because they have a wireless internet connection that can connect anywhere. So if you're on the train, in the airport or even at home, you won't be bothered by annoying wires.
Free Apps - Apps, or applications, are one of Android OS' main strengths! These are programs that allow you to do anything - from games like 'Angry Birds,' to Facebook and even Google's own apps like 'Gmail' and 'YouTube.' Install the right app and you'll be able to do anything anywhere! Best of all? Most of them are free! Go to 'Android Marketplace,' choose the app you like, click install and you're done!
Cool - The shiny, slate-like Android tablet is always likely to get people talking! They look so futuristic and are much more streamlined than big laptops that they truly are the best way to get active online and with media when you're out!

As mentioned tablet PCs tend to be cheap, but how cheap? If you avoid the stores in town and stick to the internet you can find your best Android tablet for around just 200 dollars, so log on and search for Android tablets in a search engine and you should be able to find some great bargains!

[Reprinted]Will the Android Beat the iPhone?

Most of the people think that Apple iPhone is the only phone that is the top notch mobile and no other mobile is up to the level of iPhone but now things are going to change as Androids are taking the place of iPhone for sure. Androids phones are not only the best competitors of iPhone but they are also making iPhone lagging behind them. The reason is the high quality and superior functionality of Android phones. Another reason behind the success of these phones is that more and more companies are manufacturing Android phones. This is leading to a huge amount of production and variety as well. That is why people are taking more interest in Android phones as all the basic and advanced functions are included in these phones that are required by almost every phone user. The price of Android phone is also affording as compared to the iPhone so this is another reason why people are getting so much interested in the buying of Androids.

Android is basically based on an open source operating system that allows a person to use this operating software in many phones. This software can be run on most of the mobiles manufactured by different companies. Remember that Android is not a phone, it is an operating software OS. The manufacturers of this software may license this software for any phone that they think is able to run on this software. The manufacturers are also capable of doing amendments like changing etc where ever they feel appropriate. Actually the main objective of this software's developers is to facilitate the customers to use this software in their phones without any trouble and customers should feel comfortable by having all the necessary elements in the software that they require. Google is the company that has developed this OS for the usage of the mobile phone users. If you want to install or download any application in your mobile then Android OS will never let you feel any trouble at all.

The main disadvantage of buying iPhone is that you will be bound to install or download applications and iTunes through only one vendor and store that is owned by Apple itself. You would not be able to download or install the applications that you want from third party websites or any other source. This is not in the case of Android based phones because you are free to download applications from where ever source you think is good for your demand. You are also not bound to use this OS on single mobile phone as there are a number of phones that can run this Android OS. The software used in iPhone is not capable of running on any other phone except iPhone itself.

If you just some up all the information and facts regarding these two valuable phones i.e. Android and iPhone then you would definitely choose Android because this is the best choice for your personal usage or even if you are related to business then this is going to be your perfect phone.

[Reprinted]The Best Free Android Apps For Sports Fans

Just like all the other categories of Android apps, the sports apps available for your Android phone are extremely diverse. In my opinion, this particular category may be the most diverse simply because of all the different sports that are played throughout the world. Of course with every sport comes hundreds of Android apps.

If, for instance, you're looking for an app that will allow you to keep up with the many European soccer leagues, you need to have at least some help before you start downloading apps. If you go in blind, chances are you will download ten apps that sound like they would do the trick before you find one that does half what you would want it to do! That's just how it is. I just hope that if you go about finding apps that way, you are doing so with free apps- otherwise you could be out hundreds of dollars pretty darn quick.

One last note: I am going to concentrate on free Android sports apps that are popular now and will be popular in the future. Well that's obvious, right? Not exactly- a lot of the apps fly to the top of the rankings because it's a certain time of the year or a huge sporting event is going on (World Cup or the Olympics). I'm also looking into the pure quality of the app and the developer of the app. This way, if you want an awesome Football App (either US Football or regular Football), you should be pretty happy now and in the future with the one I list...

Although there are a lot of Android sports apps that do many more things than providing sports news, I'm concentrating on free Android apps for sports fans on this particular list.

Sporting News Pro Football

If you're a huge NFL fan, this app should be on your phone. This is a great app to have for game day or if you're like me and like to look up every stat for every player! The user interface is classy and not too crowded.

CBS Sports Pro Football

I really shouldn't have two pro football Android apps on my list, but it's the most popular sport in the US and after thinking about it, why not have three? Maybe I won't go that far. This is a great football app for everyone, but it's really geared towards those who play Fantasy Football through CBS Sports. Just login and you will have complete control over your fantasy team!

NBA Game Time Lite 2009-10

This is the official NBA Android app from last season. This coming season's app will surely be even better! It provides all the player and team stats, real-time scores and even TV information so that you can find out what channel your favorite team is playing on! If you're an NBA fan and you want a standalone pro basketball app, this is your best option.

F1 LIVE RACING

Are you a Formula 1 fan? I'll tell you what, honestly, I'm not much of a fan but that doesn't mean I don't love this app. This free Android sports app provides more than just live updates for every F1 race around the world. Plain and simple, the graphics and the features are fun. If you download this app, you won't be disappointed!

FotMob 5.0 - Live Soccer

The best soccer leagues from around the world are followed on this app. Some of them include the Premier League, Serie A, Primera Division and Allsvenskan. I could go on and on, but I really wouldn't have a clue about what I'm talking about, haha. I'll admit that I'm not the biggest soccer (football) fan, but I've looked through this app and it's a very solid, professionally built app that I would recommend to anyone.

ESPN ScoreCenter

I really shouldn't have to say much more than this is the official ESPN app. Heck, I'm not going to: ESPN is "The Worldwide Leader In Sports" after all!

SportsTap

This is again more of a sports portal. All of the big sports are covered by this app and it's obvious why hundreds of thousands of people really like it! It's tastefully done and you'll never complain about a lack of stats or information.

If you're looking for just one free Android sports app to satisfy your sports-fix, you can't go wrong with either ESPN ScoreCenter or SportsTap!

Major League Baseball News

There is borderline too much (not in a bad way) baseball information crammed into this app! If you can't get enough of MLB, you need to download this free Android app now. Along with all of the standard stats, standings and results, each team has their own page and you can customize your own RSS feed through this app!

MMA News

All the latest results, upcoming matches and octagon gossip you'd ever want! If you're into Mixed Martial Arts, this is the app to get. IMO, it blows away any other MMA-related Android app.

Sports Radio Droid

his radio app gives you the capability to listen to just about any sports show in the country! There's a healthy list of stations that are covered and I literally NEED this app when I go on vacation. Heaven forbid I'd be away from my sports talk show for a few days, haha. It's also a great app if you're living far away from your hometown and your favorite team.

Honorable Mention:

BOXING NEWS

Fantasy Guru

Golf Channel Mobile

NHL News Feed

WNBA Center Court

[Reprinted]Android Tablets: Apple VS Android, Winner Takes All?

If you haven't heard of Android tablets then you've missed out so far on the must-have gadget of present times! They are flat, portable PCs which house everything under just one big touchscreen, hence being named tablets. They are really blowing up in the gadget market and so expect to see a huge fight between the two tablet titans Android and Apple.

Android refers to Android OS, the operating system from Google. This is one option available for these devices, but what an option! Google have made great efforts to engineer this operating system to be as easy to use and intuitive as possible. This means that it is very easy to make the transition from computer to tablet PC as Android acts in a very similar way to Windows, for instance, that everyone is used to.

Apple are also in the market with their trail-blazing iPad. This was the first tablet to really capture the public's imagination and they have sold to date around an amazing 15 Million of them!

Apple has a huge following of adoring fanboys and girls that simply love its products. This is something that Android will need to work hard on in order to gain the same fanatical following, but in fact Apple prides itself on making very cool and easy-to-use devices.

However the mighty iPad is quite elderly now in gadget terms and has some big drawbacks that Android tablet users might snigger at, the most obvious being:

Lack of USB port - How can you transfer data to your iPad?

Flash incompatible - Buy this and you can't access Flash games or websites' Flash content.

No camera - Who buys any kind of PC these days without an integrated camera?

Limited storage - OK, you can buy a 64GB iPad which is a reasonably large storage capacity, but there is no way to add extra memory, not even portable memory.

Some or all of these features may be available on the iPad 2, but Android users are already enjoying all of these privileges without the cost or the long wait for a new Apple replacement.

This may explain why, according to comscore.com, Google's Android finally edged ahead of Apple in terms of users at the close of 2010. This is probably due to its appeal to a much wider market.

It is impossible to state which devices are better from Android or Apple as this is a personal choice. However it seems sensible to say that with far more choice of hardware Android caters for a far larger audience, as you can choose tablets with different size screens, processors, memory sizes and other features such as USB ports and cameras, whereas Apple simply offer the one device in response, the iPad.

If you're ready to join the winning team and jump on board the Android bandwagon then you'd better check online for the best prices and most choice. If you bear in mind the iPad's limitations, then you won't go far wrong in choosing the best Android tablet and at a fraction of the Apple device's cost!
